Do you remember when files had to be separated between multiple floppy disks to move them between computers? Or the stress you will go through by burning and ripping data from rewritable discs? Well, all that is in the past now. The new generation technology has made the transfer of files between a mobile phone and a personal computer PC very easy and quick. There are lots of ways of moving data between mobile and PC, but they all fall under these two categories; with the internet and without the internet. You will either use the internet or not to share files between the mobile phone and PC, but this article is focused on the ways that do not require the use of the internet.
Note:
These methods that will be highlighted in this article can be used to transfer files without any internet connection required, and they sometimes appear to be faster compared to a situation whereby there is weak internet connection which will make the transfer slow.
Well, here are a few options you should look out for. You may be surprised by how quickly you’ll be able to move files from now on with internet connection.
Transfer files with a USB cable
This is probably the most common way to transfer data between a mobile phone and PC when offline. The Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable connects the phone, and the PC offers you access from your PC to the files on the mobile phone. It seems to be quite comfortable and very useful. Once you connect the USB to the computer, follow these simple steps-
- Make sure your Android device is unlocked.
- Plug the other end of the USB to the phone to achieve connection.
- A notification will appear on your device saying charging this device via USB, tap it.
- Select Media transfer or File transfer from the option that will be provided for you.
- A window will open on your computer that will enable you to drag files to and from the mobile phone to the computer. If this window does not pop up, just open Windows Explorer, and from there you can gain access to your mobile phone.
- Once you are done with the transfer, eject your device from the computer.
- Lastly, unplug the USB cable from both the computer and phone.
As you can see, it is pretty easy to do. Keep in mind that Windows will attempt to install the relevant drivers if you are just connecting your phone to the system for the first time.
Transfer files with Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a popular tool that has been known for transferring data over the years. Modern day laptops are usually equipped with Bluetooth and can enable you to move files from your mobile phone to your computer but be advised that Bluetooth is friendly with huge file transfers as it takes too long to complete. Small file transfers are preferable when using Bluetooth, to do this follow the steps below;
- The first thing you need to do is switch on the Bluetooth of your PC, and this can be done depending on the type of laptop you are using by reaching out to the notification tray that is located towards the right of the taskbar. Some laptops have a button for switching it on.
- Switch on the Bluetooth of your android device too.
- Find your way into devices and printers in the control panel once the PC’s Bluetooth is on and click on Add a device.
- If your phone’s Bluetooth is on and visible, it will be picked up by your PC, then you select it and click Next beside your phone.
- A code will be displayed on both the screen of the PC and mobile phone. Both codes must be the same to ensure that it is the right device you are connecting to.
- Click Continue on both devices after matching the codes.
- The two devices will pair up in a few seconds and will be ready to exchange data as you please.
You will be notified once the transfer is complete and you can find these files in the public folder on your PC.
Transfer files using Wireless Media Readers
A wireless media reader is a portable wireless storage device that has a USB port and an SD card slot which will enable you to transfer files between the reader and other devices with the use of WIFI connectivity. It does not require an internet connection and allows multiple users to access it at the same time. All you need to do is connect all devices that will be necessary for this transfer by creating a WIFI hotspot and joining in with other devices. This way one can transfer files from the mobile phone to the reader and collect them from the reader to the PC, at a rapid rate. This is not a standard method that is used, but it is beneficial and reliable.
Transfer files using SD Card
A smooth and easy way to transfer data between your mobile phone and PC without going through the stress of apps and wireless connections and protocols is by making use of an SD Card. All you need is an SD card adapter that can be attached to your system. To do this, follow these steps;
- Get the SD card you will require for this transfer and place it in your phone.
- Copy the files you want to transfer from your mobile phone to the SD card.
- Eject the SD card from your phone and attach it to the SD card adapter.
- Attach this to your system and make sure your PC can read it.
- If it reads it, a window will pop up on your PC screen displaying the files in the SD Card, so all you need to do is copy and paste the files wherever you want them.
It is very straightforward and smooth; the only issue is that some computers do not read an SD card adapter.
Files can also be transferred between a PC and a mobile phone with the use of apps but for these apps to function correctly, both devices must have them, and they will need to establish connection either with the use of USB cable or a wireless connection. Transfer of files has never been so much easier than it is now.
